JORGE ALBERTO MIYAGUI OSHIRO

 

Visual artist graduated from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (1995-2000). He has held individual exhibitions in Helsinki, Finland (Danger Zone at Stoa Gallery in 2012); Lima, Peru (Contrapoder (Contra-Power) at Galería Municipal Pancho Fierro, Arte=Vida, Vida=Política, Política=Ética. El Señor Miyagui contraataca desde el Averno (Art=Life, Life=Politics, Politics=Ethics: Mr. Miyagui Strikes Back from the Averno) at Centro Cultural El Averno in 2002, Desde dentro (From the Inside) at Galería 80m2 arte&debates in 2006, Alerta/Amor (Alert/Love) in 2010 and Manifiesto (Manifesto) in 2015, both at the Fundación Euroidiomas, Tinkuy Cósmico (Cosmic Tinkuy) at Galery of IPCNA – Miraflores in 2018); in Cusco, Peru (Poéticas de la resistencia (Poetics of Resistance) in the Sala Nacional de Cultura Mariano Fuentes Lira at the Escuela Superior Autónoma de Bellas Artes Diego Quispe Tito in 2006); and in Chiclayo, Peru (Códigos dialogantes (Codes in Conversation) at the gallery of the Peruvian National Institute of Culture (INC) in 2007). He has taken part in collective exhibitions in Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Germany, Spain, the United States, and elsewhere. He has been the Human Rights Advocacy Fellow-in-Residence at Trinity College in Connecticut (2015) and a guest lecturer at the University of Washington—Seattle (2009, 2011, 2015, 2017). His works and texts have appeared in reviews and publications in numerous countries, including Peru, Chile, Argentina, the Netherlands, Finland, the United States, etc. He was a member of Colectivo Aguaitones (1998-2001), Centro Cultural El Averno (2002-2012), and the Foro de la Cultura Solidaria (2004-2009). He is currently involved in the collective projects Brigada Muralista (Muralist Brigade) and Museo Itinerante Arte por la Memoria (“Art for Memory” Traveling Museum) (2012 National Prize for Arts and Sciences in favor of Human Rights and 2014 Prince Claus Award).
